A woman is dead and a student out of four is in hospital after a collision between two cars on the A7

A woman is dead and four people, including a student, are in hospital after a collision between two cars on the A7.

Police are appealing for information following a collision in Galashiels, which occurred at around 10.55am on Thursday on the A7, Abbotsford Road, and involved a black Seat Altea and a gray Honda CRV.

The driver of the Seat, an 83-year-old woman, was taken to Borders General Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital along with three passengers: a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy.

Officers say their injuries are not life-threatening.

Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died as the investigation continues to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact us. Additionally, if you have dash cam footage that may assist our investigation, please contact us.”
