The accident occurred on the A7 Abbotsford Road in Galashiels

An 83-year-old woman has died and four people have been injured following a two-car crash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision between a black Seat Altea and a gray Honda CRV on the A7 Abbotsford Road, Galashiels, at 10.55am.

The driver of the Seat was taken to Borders General Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital along with three passengers – a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed and reopened around 3 p.m.

Sgt Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died as the investigation continues to establish the full circumstances.”
