The teenager pleads not guilty to unintentional manslaughter, charges of causing a fatal accident under the influence of alcohol

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A 17-year-old Anchorage teenager facing adult charges in a truck crash that killed a passenger pleaded innocent Thursday afternoon.

Stefan Shearer is now facing charges of manslaughter and tampering with evidence driving and crashing a Ford F-350 being under the influence.

Even though medical assistance arrived on the scene after the accident, one of the two teenage passengers in the truck did not survive when he was pulled from where he was pinned under the truck.

Shearer is out on bail and house arrest from October 16He did not appear in court on Thursday. Instead, his lawyer appeared in court with Shearer by phone.

Shearer has not yet appeared in person, only confirming his presence by phone on Thursday. Neither Shearer’s parents nor the victim’s family were present. A restraining order preventing Shearer from contacting the surviving victim or the families of the teenager present the night of the crash remains in effect.

Shearer’s representative, John Cashion, declined to comment to Alaska News Source on why he pleaded innocent.

Shearer’s next court date is set for December.
