A parent is suing MNPS after her child suffered a brain injury at school

Sherrill was told her child was kicked in the head by another student and was never taken to a nurse.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A parent is suing Metro Nashville Public Schools after accusing the district of negligence.

Shanikka Sherrill claims her autistic child suffered a brain injury at school. She says her 7-year-old was injured at Granberry Elementary School in 2023.

The lawsuit claims the student returned home sick, with bumps and bruises on his face. When the mother started asking questions, she said the school told her the child had hurt himself.

Sherill called the principal and said she had a different story. She was told that her child had been kicked in the head by another student and was never taken to a nurse because the teacher did not report the incident.

The mother is asking for $300,000.
