A local youth group inspires others through service

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Amarillo has many beautiful parks for people to enjoy, but it also has a group that makes sure the parks stay beautiful.

This is another project of the Interact Club, which brings together ambitious young people from our region.

“So Interact is a rotational club, which is the adult version of a club. We participate at the local, national and international levels with service projects that help improve the community on all different levels,” said Terryl Lee, vice president of the Interact Club.

The group has recently been involved in many helpful projects.

“Just a few weeks ago we went to Cadillac Ranch to paint Cadillacs red to spread polio awareness because the ambulance service has done a lot to help eradicate polio,” Lee said.

For Terryl, there is a core mission.

“I decided to get involved with Interact to help people increase their presence and help improve the community, help use their voice to spread awareness about things and things like that,” Lee said.

The group will descend on Medi Park on Saturday and you can help.

“We will be cleaning in Medi Park on Saturday from nine to twelve. Everyone is welcome and we will just pick up trash and all kinds of trash to create a good environment not only for animals but for people so that we can get to a nice, clean park,” Lee said.

“What happens if it rains,” Dave asked.

“The rain won’t stop us. We’ll just keep working on it and if that happens, it’ll be really bad and we’ll come back another day and finish cleaning it up,” Lee said.

The Interact Club hopes to inspire other young people to get involved in such projects and leave a legacy.

“Describe what you want to see in your future and what you want to leave here on the planet to your children and future generations,” Lee said.

Dave loves seeing the city’s youth get involved in beautifying the place and making the city better for everyone. It’s contagious, it’s good news.
