One person is dead and two others are injured in a shooting at a Washington shopping mall where a Halloween trick-or-treating event is taking place.

One person was killed Thursday evening when shots rang out at a shopping mall in Washington state while a Halloween trick-or-treating party was taking place at the shopping complex.

The fatal shooting occurred in the second-floor food court of the Vancouver Mall just after 7:30 p.m. PST as customers fled the building fearing for their safety. The Colombian reported citing emergency scanners.

Two people were injured and taken to a local hospital, Vancouver police announced on Their condition was not immediately known.

“There is currently no active threat at the mall and police are making contact with individuals who were hiding inside the mall,” the department said. “More information will be made available as it becomes available.”

The chaotic scene unfolded as the mall was wrapping up its annual trick-or-treating event.

The mall-wide Halloween celebration encouraged community members of all ages to dress up and go to some of the stores that handed out candy.

The event is scheduled to end at 8 p.m

One father had just finished trick-or-treating with his wife and children and was at the Round1 bowling alley in the mall when people began running out of the bowling alley before learning of an active shooter.

“I grabbed my two children and put them behind me,” Gregory Iiams told the Columbian.

The services did not provide any details about the shooting or victims.

The 880,000-square-foot shopping center features more than 140 stores and is located 7 miles north of the Columbia River, which divides Washington state from Portland, Oregon.
