Fatal crash shuts down southbound Central Expressway in Richardson – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A fatal multi-car crash Friday morning blocked the southbound U.S. 75 Central Expressway in Richardson.

Police were still on the scene early Friday morning investigating the cause of a major crash near President George Bush’s Turnpike.

The multi-vehicle accident was reported just after 1 a.m. When police arrived at the 3400 block of Central Expressway, they found several heavily damaged vehicles.

NBC 5 crews responding to the scene observed several vehicles with significant damage and debris scattered across the roadway.

According to police, multiple people were injured and taken to local hospitals, and more than one person died.

All southbound lanes of the Central Expressway are closed at Plano Parkway, causing long tailbacks as police divert traffic off U.S. 75. Traffic on the Bush Turnpike will also be affected.

The primary investigative agency is the Richardson Police Department, but is assisted by Plano police.

It is not known how long the highway will be closed.
