Key down-ballot races in today’s states

  • Arizona’s First District: The district covers the northeastern portion of Maricopa and is represented by Republican David Schweikert, who has served Arizona in Congress since 2011. Biden won his district by 1.5 points in the last presidential election (Dave’s Relocation), making this race extremely competitive. Schweikert will face Democrat and former state representative Amish Shah. This is Drop it off in the power rankings.
  • Arizona’s 6th District: Tucked away in the southeast corner of the state, the 6th District is represented by freshman GOP Rep. Juan Ciscomani. In 2020, Biden won this area by an even smaller margin – just 0.1 percentage point – making it another closely watched race. Ciscomani is running against Kirsten Engel, another former Democratic state representative. It’s also A Drop it off.
  • Texas’ 28th district: Longtime 28th District Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar will run for his tenth term this year. Midway through the season, he won his final race by 13 points; In the last presidential election, Biden won this area by seven points. In May The Justice Department prosecuted Cuellar on allegations of money laundering, conspiracy and bribery. The official finds himself in a difficult position against former Republican Navy commander Jay Furman. This breed is Lean D.
  • Texas’ 34th district: In Southeast Texas, incumbent Democrat Vicente Gonzalez is seeking a fifth term in Congress. At the halfway point, he won by 8.5 points. She will face former Republican Mayra Flores, who briefly represented the district in 2022. This Gulf Coast district is rated Lean D.
  • Nevada’s Third District: This district almost touches Las Vegas, but extends far west to Henderson, Boulder City and rural Clark County. Democratic Republican Susie Lee has held the district seat since 2019; this year, he will face Republican Drew Johnson. This race is ranked Lean D.

Arizona is one of the most competitive states this cycle

President Biden won a decisive victory in Arizona in the last presidential election, turning the state toward Democrats for the first time since 1996.

Four years later, the state remains highly competitive. At the end of September A Fox News Poll put former President Trump at 50% and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris at 47% among likely voters; AARP study around the same time had Trump is two points ahead Harris at 49% to 47%.

Maricopa County remains the state’s most important battleground. It is the fourth most populous county in the United States, represents over 60% of Arizona’s registered voters, and has a large suburban population, particularly in Mesa.

Arizona is also home to a larger share of Latino voters than the rest of the country, and although these voters favored Biden by 19 points in the last election, they are showing signs of leaning toward Trump.

Republicans are strongest in sparsely populated rural areas, particularly Mohave County (Trump plus 51) and Graham County (Trump plus 45), but their biggest advantage is in the outer suburbs and suburban areas of Maricopa, Pinal and Pima counties.

The Grand Canyon State also will vote for a new senator after independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema decided not to seek re-election this year. The GOP candidate is Kari Lake, a former TV news anchor who ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2022. Democrats fielded Republican Ruben Gallego, a former Marine to represent Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District.

Georgia is one of the most competitive states in this cycle

Over the past four decades, Georgia has voted Republican in all but two elections. The first was former President Clinton’s landslide victory in 1992, and the second was 2020, when Biden returned the state to the Democrats by a majority of 11,779 votes.

A victory for either candidate would make their path to victory easier. The Peach State has 16 electoral votes to offer, and recent polls show a tight race and the state has the top spot in the Toss-Up polls. Fox News Power Rankings.
