The Florida Highway Patrol says it is searching for the driver and vehicle that struck and killed a man in Manatee County.

According to the FHP, an unknown vehicle was traveling south on US 301 near 44th Street E. A pedestrian, who was within the travel lanes of US 301, stepped in front of the vehicle. FHP said the driver of the vehicle then struck the pedestrian.

The services announced that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP says the driver fled the scene and authorities are still searching for both the vehicle and driver. Authorities believe the vehicle was likely a white Nissan.
