Paul Hurst gives an update on injured Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jordan Shipley

Shipley has not played for Shrewsbury since drawing 2-2 with Bolton almost a month ago.

The midfielder suffered an Achilles injury in the 53rd minute of the clash at Toughseet Community Stadium.

At first, it was easy to fear the worst in the shoe. However, scans showed that the injury was not as serious as initially thought, and his recovery has since steadily improved.

Paul Hurst has said that the former Coventry player, although he still feels some pain at times, could play for the team tomorrow.

“Jordan Shipley trained this week,” Hurst said. “He had some discomfort, but he managed.

“So unless I hear anything else, I would expect him to be available to us.”

Meanwhile, Hurst says they will have to make a late check on Pierre’s fitness after he went off in the 36th minute of Town’s defeat to Barnsley last week with a hamstring injury.

In his post-match interview, the Shrewsbury head coach was unsure of the severity of Pierre’s injury.

However, he has now confirmed that the 31-year-old trained for the first time on Friday and can play at the Peninsula Stadium.

“Aaron Pierre did some work (on Friday),” he continued.

“We need to find out where he is and whether he is involved or not. He is the only one.”

Hurst also confirmed that Josh Kayode is still not ready to return to competition.

Kayode has not played since the 2-1 Under-21 defeat to Fulham in August due to a calf problem and his rehabilitation is nearing completion.

He said: “JJ has been on the grass this week and wasn’t ready to take part. But I think we’re just looking at these few guys.”
