A man allegedly raped one woman and attacked another within 45 minutes in Bay Village and the Theater District

Court records show a Lowell man allegedly raped one woman in Bay Village and attempted to rape another woman he accidentally met in the theater district last Saturday, October 26.

Solomon Wambui, 25, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday, where Judge Richard Sinnott ordered him released on bail under the state’s endangerment law at the request of Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden’s office. Records show he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and assault with intent to rape.

Court records show the 26-year-old woman was returning home to Bay Village around 4:30 a.m. after working late. The woman was on the phone with her mother and heading to her home when Wambui allegedly approached her on Cortes Street.

– Can you leave? According to court records, the woman asked Wambui. “Can I have some personal space?” “

Wambui allegedly responded by insisting that the woman “come with me.” I can help you. I can take you home,” prosecutors wrote in court documents.

At that point, Wambui allegedly grabbed the woman “by the front of her neck and then from behind, then pulled her to the ground” and raped her, prosecutors wrote.

“The entire attack and rape of the first woman was captured on video,” prosecutors say.

As Wambui fled down Arlington Street, the woman recorded him on her cell phone, called 911 and provided Boston police with a description of the attacker. According to prosecutors, officers began searching the area and spotted a man matching Wambui’s description leaving Eliot Norton Park on Charles Street South around 5:15 a.m.

Prosecutors say a 47-year-old woman who was walking near the suspect told police the man had sexually assaulted her.

She later told police she was walking down Charles Street South when a man began following her. “She increased her walking pace and he did so as well,” prosecutors wrote.

Wambui allegedly grabbed the woman and put his hand over her mouth, causing her to have difficulty breathing due to her asthma, prosecutors wrote.

Prosecutors say Wambui allegedly forced her into a grassy area of the park and attacked her.

“She was crying. She tried to free herself from him, twisting and contorting her body. The victim tried to scream as much as possible, but with a hand covering her mouth it was difficult,” prosecutors wrote.

The woman managed to convince Wambui to stop and lead her out of the park, prosecutors wrote. “The victim convinced the defendant to leave the park and see if she could get away from him,” prosecutors wrote.

Police searching for a man who raped a woman on Cortes Street saw Wambui, noticed his zipper was undone and that he was bleeding from a scratch, prosecutors say. Officers arrested him in connection with both attacks, prosecutors wrote.

“The nature and circumstances of these crimes can only be described as brutal, cruel and utterly disgusting,” prosecutors wrote. “The only reason he was discovered and ultimately arrested was because he attacked another victim at a similar time to the attack on the first victim.”

In court documents, prosecutors said Wambui had no prior domestic violence convictions and was not on probation for his recent conviction. “The defendant has no criminal record,” prosecutors wrote.

His defense attorney was not immediately available Friday.

Wambui is scheduled to appear in court again on November 22. He is also being held with $50,000 in cash.

His arrest was first reported by the Boston Herald.
