MANDAN — Mandan police have identified the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed a toddler on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

According to a Mandan Police Department press release issued on Friday, November 1, Kati Arneson, 35, was the driver of a 2016 Ford Expedition that struck a 3-year-old child in northwest Mandan on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to the driver and the 3-year-old victim, there were seven other children in the vehicle, aged 4 to 10.

Police said Arneson was unaware the child was outside the vehicle or that he had been struck. Officers at the scene provided medical assistance to the child and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An earlier statement from the Mandan Police Department said officers responded to:

Report of a 3-year-old who fell from a vehicle

and then he was hit by her.

According to the release, officers continue to investigate the incident and are assisted by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories titled “personnel.” Often the title “staff” is used when transcribing basic news from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, that require little or no reporting. Sometimes this signature is used when an article has multiple authors or when the article is created by combining previously reported news from different sources. If external sources are used, this is noted in the story.
