Man extradited to McDuffie County a year after armed robbery incident

DEARING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect has been extradited to McDuffie County in connection with a 2023 armed robbery and assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Corderro Latron Morton, 34, was booked into the McDuffie County Jail on Wednesday.

On May 16, deputies provided aid to a victim with a gunshot wound to the left leg who was being transported to a medical facility.

The report states that upon arrival, deputies contacted the victim, who advised them that the suspect had messaged him on Facebook to buy his motorcycle.

The victim told deputies the suspect was dropped off by another unknown person when he came to purchase a motorcycle.

Deputies say the suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The incident report shows that the victim probably did it he shot and threw the gun at the suspect.

According to the incident report, the victim then took cover while the suspect continued to shoot at him before driving away on his motorcycle towards Augusta Road.

Deputies say weapons were recovered from both the victim and the suspect away from home.

The report states that officers were then called to assist in a motorcycle pursuit of the suspect involved in the incident.

The report states that Morton allegedly tried to flee from police officers, nearly hitting several other cars, while driving east on Augusta Highway into Columbia County.

Deputies say they notified Columbia County dispatch to provide assistance.

Officials say a motorcycle stopped working on Augusta Highway. Morton allegedly placed his bicycle in front of the resident on Gordon Highway and fled on foot behind the residence toward the woods.

Authorities say they lost track of Morton in the woods and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office mounted a round to locate the suspect.

According to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, Morton was in custody at another agency and was transported from Macon State Prison.

According to arrest records, Morton is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm or knife while committing or attempting to commit certain crimes.

Records show Morton is being held in the McDuffie County Jail. His bond was denied.
