The Kings rising star is a “name to watch” on the NBA Trade Market

The Kings of Sacramento are not known for their wealth of young talent, but the emergence of 24-year-old striker Keegan Murray has been something special.

The Kings have done a great job building around stars De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, especially after the offseason addition of six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan, but many question whether they have what it takes to compete for a championship.

Murray has performed well alongside the stars, but is it possible that the Kings could include the young standout forward in a deal that would result in a win?

Sam Amick and John Hollinger of The Athletic noted six “names to watch as the NBA trade market shapes up,” suggesting Sacramento’s Keegan Murray could be drawn into trade talks.

Most Kings fans will immediately dismiss this idea, and rightfully so, but the NBA is a very unpredictable landscape.

The Kings made a splash this offseason by bringing in DeRozan, but if things don’t go as planned, what’s next for them? Several notable names have been moved over the past few years, and if the Kings wanted to engage in the superstar trade market, Murray would be the most valuable prize for opposing teams.

“Here’s the Kings’ dilemma: They’re legally all-in on Murray, which makes it pretty difficult to go all-in on the prospect of adding another star from elsewhere. This was the case when they pursued Markkanen prior to the June draft , as has occurred in similar scenarios for other players before.

However, Murray is the only young player signed by the Kings who could turn the tide in trade talks, which means he will likely be asked for whenever they discuss the prospect of acquiring a player of any standing.” – Athlete

It would take a lot of effort to move on from Murray, but it’s not impossible. Murray will have a contract extension in 2025, and his performance this season could impact his future in Sacramento.

If Sacramento wants to reach out to more stars on the trade market, Murray’s role at the center of those talks will become a reality.
