Suspect convicted on murder charges in fatal shooting in Talladega County

A suspect is being held in the Talladega County Jail on $250,000 bail after authorities say he shot and killed a man over the weekend.

Talladega County court records show Thomas Austin Griffith, 25, of Heflin, allegedly shot and killed Jackie Arnold Kays on Sunday.

Jail records show Griffith was arrested Thursday and taken to the county jail on murder charges.

As of Friday evening, the 25-year-old suspect had not posted bail.

The complaint against Griffith filed in Talladega County did not provide details about the incident, but Deputy Chief Josh Tubbs said: WBRC that Griffith confronted Kays at his Munford home.

Tubbs said there was an argument that led to the fatal shots.

Attempts to reach Tubbs were not immediately successful.
