1 dead, 2 injured in ‘chain reaction’ crash on Highway 401 near Kingston

Provincial police say one person is dead after a five-car crash on Highway 401 near Kingston, Ont., Wednesday evening.

According to an OPP news release, emergency crews were called to a “chain reaction” crash in the area of ​​Joyceville Road around 7:40 p.m. after a tractor-trailer collided with another vehicle that was “slowing or stopping in a construction zone.”

Investigators said three more vehicles collided after the first collision, including one that rear-ended, causing two people to suffer back injuries.

The section of highway was closed for about 15 hours and reopened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Police have not released any information about the charges but say they are expected.
