A 9-year-old girl was among two people injured in a shooting near a Far North Side school

CHICAGO – Two people, including a 9-year-old girl, were injured in a shooting near a school on the Far North Side on Friday afternoon.

According to Chicago police, gunfire broke out just before 3:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Winthrop Avenue, near William C. Goudy Public School in Uptown.

The office said the two victims, a 9-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man, were standing near the sidewalk when they were both hit by gunfire.

The young girl suffered an abrasion to her calf and was taken to hospital, where her condition was stated to be good.

A 45-year-old man was shot in the arm and was taken to hospital, where his condition was also reported to be good.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 5:05 p.m., when several officers could be seen combing areas blocked off with caution tape.

Officers are unsure where the shooting came from or what led to the shooting.

The shooting investigation is currently ongoing and no arrests have been made.
