Identification cards issued in the event of separate fatal accidents

Yesterday, law enforcement officials released the names of two people who died in separate car crashes late Monday and early Tuesday.

According to the Sutter County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office, 72-year-old Thomas Steven Waicunas Jr. died after being hit by a car Monday night in Yuba City. The office said Waicunas was homeless.

Yuba City Police did not respond to questions today regarding the crash involving Waicunas, which reportedly occurred near Bridge and Plumas streets in downtown Yuba City around 8 p.m.

The Placer County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has identified a 26-year-old woman who died when the car she was riding in overturned early Tuesday morning near Lincoln as Isabel Blanco Vasquez. They did not determine what community she belonged to.

The California Highway Patrol said Vasquez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle when it left the right shoulder and overturned around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The CHP identified William Bryan Cubias-Martinez, 26, of Marysville, as the driver of the overturned vehicle. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, and upon his release, he will be booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, the CHP said.

A GoFundMe website with information about funeral costs identified the deceased woman as Isabel Vasquez Blanco and indicated she had family in Yuba City. We reached out to the woman who started the GoFundMe site to confirm the name, but had not heard back as of press time.
