Dearborn mayor attacks Trump’s visit in exchange for Arab voters: ‘he will never be my president’

Before the rally in Warren, former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Dearborn.

The visit was an attempt to drum up Arab-American votes, with many in the community angry at the Biden-Harris administration’s handling and involvement in Israel’s war in Gaza.

While at the restaurant, The Great Commoner repeated his comments about Republican Liz Cheney supporting Democrat Kamala Harris in the election and mocking the former congresswoman over her enthusiasm for foreign wars.

“I think Liz Cheney is a disaster, she just wants to blow people up. He is a ‘war hawk’,” he said. – And a stupid one at that. And if you ever put her on the battlefield, she’ll be the first to chicken out.

However, not everyone agreed with Trump’s visit, including some top city officials who were not present at the event.

Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, a former Democratic state representative, issued a fiery statement condemning the emergence of the GOP presidential candidate.

“Architect of Muslim Ban Halts Dearborn Campaign. People in this community know what Trump stands for – we have suffered from it for years. I refused to meet with him, even though the requests kept coming.

“Trump will never be my president again.

“To Democrats, your unwillingness to stop funding and enabling genocide has created space for Trump to infiltrate our communities. Remember this.

In the August primary elections, the “unaligned” vote among Arab Americans caused a major decline, with more than 100,000 votes cast in protest.

Hammoud then celebrated a statement from voters – many from the Arab-American community – sent to the Biden administration.

Despite Hammoud and other Dearborn leaders, Trump gained widespread support from Arab leaders with the endorsements of Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi and Hamtramck Mayor Dr. Amer Ghalib.
