Cardinals taking part in trade talks; Sr. Budda Baker is unlikely to be considered

With a record of 4-4, the Cardinals are in first place in the NFC West. This puts the team in an interesting position as Jonathan Gannon/Monti Ossenfort the regime is approaching its second trade deadline in the lead. Time will tell what, if anything, will be done in the near future regarding the mid-season moves.

“We have been involved in many conversations with the teams and we will continue to be here as the days come,” he added. Ossenfort said during a Friday appearance on Arizona Sports (via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic). “We’re working through the process… We’ll look at the trade deadline on Monday and Tuesday and see if something is a good fit for us.”

Arizona was 4-13 last year, but with a point guard Kyler Murray available for the full campaign in 2024. Expectations demanded a step forward. The team is on the right track in this regard, and adding a new player could increase their chances of winning the league title (or at least earning an NFC wild card). The defensive line, both on the inside and on the edges, could be a target due to the Cardinals’ injuries in those areas.

Edge chaser BJ Ojulari suffered a torn ACL before the start of the campaign and Dennis Gardeck Lately suffered the same fate. Meanwhile, a first-round rookie Darius Robinson Is off injured reserve However, it is not known when he will be able to make his debut in the regular season. Justin Jones AND Bilal Nichols are inaccessible, so from Arizona’s point of view, it would make sense to deepen the interior. While he didn’t indicate whether something was imminent, Ossenfort confirmed that the D-line and edge are areas we’re reviewing ahead of the deadline.

The most frequently predicted move for the Cardinals in recent weeks is one involving safety Buddha Baker sold. The six-time Pro Bowler is a pending free agent, and his trade request in the 2023 offseason ultimately resulted in a short-term solution being worked out. Baker, 28, he hopes to earn another contract with the Cardinals off-season, although Ossenfort and Co. was not in place when he was drafted or initially extended. This has led to questions about a potential deal, but it seems unlikely.

“Buddha plays a big role in what we do.” Ossenfort added. “I think this time of year there’s a lot of information out there – a lot of misinformation – whether it’s about our players or someone else’s players… People can throw anything out there and there may not be any truth to it at all… We couldn’t be more excited the presence of Buddha.”

This endorsement certainly suggests that Baker will remain in office beyond the Nov. 5 deadline. The two-time All-Pro has made just one postseason appearance in his career, which dates back to 2017 and included only appearances in Arizona. If he stays for the second half of the season, he will maintain a key leadership role among the otherwise young sophomores in addition to his on-field duties. If the Cardinals decide to loan an additional player, finances won’t be an issue as it is the case with the team over $19 million in place of the cap.
