Operatives of the Ogun State Police have arrested Onoriode Augustine for allegedly kidnapping minors in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, 33, was on Friday paraded at the command headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Addressing journalists, Commissioner Abiodun Amalutu stated that while Augustine has been arrested, another suspect, identified as Akpan, is still at large.

Alamutu noted that the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to abducting over ten children who were later returned to their families after paying the ransom.

According to the commissioner, the suspect also masterminded the kidnappings that took place in Ijebu Ode where Adeogun Oluwasegun and Jonathan Favor were kidnapped.

Abiodun said: “The state is largely calm following the recent arrest of 33-year-old Onoriode Augustine while a suspect named Akpan is on the run. They especially target children for kidnapping purposes.

“Since they began this illegal activity, they have taken more than ten children and returned them to their families after paying a ransom.

“They also informed the police that they orchestrated the kidnappings that occurred in Ijebu Ode, where Adeogun Oluwasegun and Jonathan Favor were kidnapped, using similar fraudulent tactics such as pretending to rent a battery and seeking to rent an apartment on September 17 and 22.”
