Victor’s driver dies from health complications after an accident in Hopewell; A Newark woman is recovering

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says an 84-year-old Victor man died following a two-vehicle collision on State Route 488 in the town of Hopewell.

Ronald J. Schanche was driving a tan 2013 Chrysler Town and Country on Freshour Road on October 31 when he reportedly attempted to cross State Route 488 but failed to yield to a northbound vehicle. Tara E. Curia, 47, of Newark, was driving a black 2004 Jeep Wrangler that collided with Schanche’s car on the driver’s side.

The impact closed the intersection while emergency crews from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and Hopewell Fire arrived to secure the scene and remove the vehicles. Schanche’s front-seat passenger was not injured, authorities said. Both Schanche and Curia were transported by Canandaigua EMS to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Schanche suffered medical complications while being observed in the hospital and died early on November 1.
