Bucyrus man injured in Friday evening crash

REED TOWNSHIP – A Bucyrus man was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Seneca County on Friday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post.

Stanlee Howell, of Bucyrus, suffered serious injuries and it is unknown at this time whether he was wearing a seat belt, the Patrol said. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital by North Central EMS and then flown from Bellevue to MetroHealth in Cleveland.

Robert Smith, of Fostoria, was transported to Bellevue Hospital by North Central EMS. The report shows that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

The patrol said it is investigating a serious crash between a commercial vehicle and a pickup truck that occurred Friday at 6:43 p.m. on State Route 4 near State Route 269 in Reed Township.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevy Silverado driven by Howell was traveling northeast on State Route 4. A 2009 Peterbilt semi driven by Smith was traveling southwest on State Route 4. The patrol reported that Howell was attempting to make a left turn onto State Route 269. and was hit by half a Peterbilt.

Both vehicles were driving on the right side of the road. The Peterbilt struck a nearby house before finally coming to rest.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Bellevue Fire Department, North Central Ambulance, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Interstate Towing and Wilcox Towing. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
