Trump wants to become president to avoid prison

Growing up in a conservative Catholic family, voting Republican was never an option. I have supported the GOP for most of my life, believing that its policies are consistent with my views on limited government and personal responsibility. However, the Wisconsin Republican Party, which I once proudly helped lead, has become completely unrecognizable over the last few years.

I began my journey with the Wisconsin Republican Party, volunteering tirelessly on campaigns. I quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Vice Chairman and ultimately Chairman of the Brown County Republican Party from 2013-2015. I ran for election Brown County Board of Supervisors as a fiscal conservative deeply committed to improving my community in northeastern Wisconsin.

But Donald Trump’s ascension in 2016 brought out the worst in the Republican Party, with his divisive rhetoric and disregard for democratic norms. Every day of Trump’s presidency seemed to set a new low, ending with him refusing to accept the results of the 2020 election and encouraging his supporters to attack the US Capitol on January 6.

Trump denying the election and embracing extreme conspiracy theories is extremely disturbing. He consistently cozies up to QAnon believers and racist neo-Nazis. He called for punishment of his political opponents. And he promised to become a dictator from day one, even calling for the abolition of the constitution.

This behavior is not only inappropriate – it is dangerous.

Republicans continue to cover up Trump’s bad behavior

And while Trump has always thought about it, Republicans continue to cover up his behavior, which is deeply unbecoming of a president and a threat to our democracy. We saw this with Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, who said he was willing to do what Mike Pence didn’t do on January 6, even if it meant breaking the law. Some people who call themselves Republicans will do anything for Donald Trump – regardless of the harm done to the American people.

In 2024, the contrast between Republicans and Democrats couldn’t be more stark. President Joe Biden, recognizing the need to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, willingly gave up power in a decision that was an expression of his patriotism and love for his country. Meanwhile, Trump is desperately trying to stay in power for personal gain, knowing that winning the presidency is the only way he can avoid prison.

Harris is the only candidate in this election with a vision for the future – one that upholds democracy, equality and justice for all. Trump only cares about himself and is obsessed with revenge and revenge against his political enemies.

Wisconsinites are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan politics

So let me say this as a lifelong conservative: If you feel uncomfortable voting for Trump, base yourself on that feeling and don’t vote for him. The stakes have never been higher.

Wisconsin must reject Trump’s dangerous path and elect Harris, who will fight on behalf of all Americans – not just those who voted for her.

I have spoken to many Wisconsinites who are tired of Trump’s petty, partisan policies and believe in a better future. Now more than ever, we must unite around candidates who believe in democracy and the rule of law. The choice is clear: Harris offers the leadership we need and will move our country forward. Let’s make sure that our voices are heard in November and that democracy is preserved for future generations.
