J&K: Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist killed in encounter in Srinagar, four security personnel injured – India News

In a tense encounter on Saturday morning, security forces neutralized a Pakistani terrorist linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Khanyar area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Four security personnel, including two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and two police constables, sustained injuries during the operation, but their condition is reported to be stable after treatment at the 92 Base Military Hospital.

Kashmir IGP VK Birdi said, “Two terrorists were killed in this operation and now this operation is coming to an end. We constantly receive information and only after it has been processed do the security forces take such action, so it is a good initiative on our part and also a significant achievement.”

“Now this operation has been completed. The security forces killed a terrorist identified as Usman…, he was a LeT commander, and 4 security personnel were injured. He is a foreign terrorist and his role and involvement in the murder of Inspector Masroor has come to light and further investigation is being carried out in the matter,” added the Kashmir IGP.

The encounter began as security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khanyar, a densely populated locality, following intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists. As security forces moved in, the terrorists opened fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During the clashes, a fire broke out in the building where the terrorist was hiding, sending clouds of thick, gray smoke into the sky.

Officials confirmed that the terrorist killed in the encounter was a Pakistani national and a senior LeT member. “Considering his age, he appears to be the most senior terrorist in the LeT,” a senior police officer said. The operation continues and security personnel continue to secure the area and look for other potential threats.

In a separate operation on Saturday, two additional terrorists were neutralized near Halkan Gali in Shangus-Larnoo area of Anantnag district. Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert as insurgent movements have intensified in many regions in recent months.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding, Jammu-based White Knight Corps, visited the border district of Rajouri to assess security measures and operational readiness. Accompanied by the Government of the People’s Republic of China counterinsurgency forces, Lt. Gen. Sachdeva Romeo stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region. This visit followed a review of activities in Kishtwar, another district with high anti-terrorism activity.

“Unwavering commitment is essential to maintaining stability in the region,” the White Knight Corps wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Intensified counter-insurgency operations in Rajouri, Kishtwar and other sensitive areas of Jammu are aimed at thwarting terrorist infiltration and securing regional stability.
