After her husband’s death, an Oakland woman allegedly called her family to hide bags of fentanyl before calling 911. Now the feds are taking up her case

OAKLAND – An Oakland woman has been charged with distributing fentanyl in the Bay Area months after she allegedly admitted to police that before reporting her husband’s death, she called her family to clear large amounts of drugs from her home.

Fany Reanos-Moreno, 32, was charged with distributing fentanyl, and court records show prosecutors also intend to seize $63,132 in alleged drug money. Indictments say Reanos-Moreno was distributing fentanyl last August, but she first appeared on Oakland police’s radar last April when her husband died by suicide in their home, authorities said.

On April 28, Reanos-Moreno’s 22-year-old husband allegedly shot himself during an argument with Reason-Moreno at their Oakland home. She later admitted that instead of immediately calling 911, she called several friends and family members to, according to authorities, clear a large amount of drugs and pills from the house.

Police were suspicious of these claims and arrested Reanos-Moreno and her relative, assuming her husband’s death was a homicide. However, authorities reported that a later autopsy confirmed it was a suicide.

In a subsequent interview, Reanos-Moreno allegedly told police that before calling 911, she called several close contacts to clean up the amounts of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine she was distributing. Police later searched the apartment and found half an ounce of several different drugs, including Authorities said fentanyl is a registry that determines the price per kilogram of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine, as well as several empty kilogram packages that were believed to have once contained fentanyl.
