Haryana: Elderly man beaten to death for opposing neighbors bursting firecrackers in Faridabad

A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Haryana’s Faridabad after he objected to people bursting firecrackers in his area.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s son Vinod, one of his neighbors and his friends burst crackers in Sector 18 in the city late Diwali evening.

When the victim, identified as Bachchan Rai, objected to this, a verbal altercation broke out and later the accused, identified as Raju, Dheeraj and Nandu, beat up the elderly man. Rai was immediately rushed to hospital but died while being treated for his injuries.

According to the complaint, the three men also attacked Vinod and his wife when they tried to intervene.

The victim’s wife also accused the police of negligence, claiming that three police teams arrived at the spot after receiving the report, but instead of taking action, they argued over jurisdiction.

Following the incident, a case was initiated against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and police teams were constituted to arrest them.

Commenting on this, Faridabad Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Yashpal Singh said, “A case has been registered against the accused and efforts are on to arrest them. We are also investigating allegations of negligence on the part of the police teams and appropriate action will be taken after that.”

In another incident, a family bursting firecrackers during Diwali was allegedly attacked with sticks and stones in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
