Michigan Arab voter sees ‘seismic shift’ among people in his community to Trump: favors ‘ending wars’

Arab American Albert Abbas, a Michigan voter, said members of his community in the state are “flowing” to former President Donald Trump because they believe he can bring world peace. He expects a “seismic shift” toward the Republican candidate.

On Saturday, Abbas spoke to “Fox & Friends: Weekend” about the former president’s appeal to Arab voters in a key swing state where Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are neck-and-neck in the polls just three days before the election.

“Arab Americans are moving towards the Trump campaign thanks to his, you know, words of tolerance, love and ending wars,” Abbas said.

On Friday, Trump greeted Abbas and a crowd of Arab Americans at a campaign stop in Dearborn, Michigan.

“It is time to prioritize the best interests of our nation and support lasting peace for all,” he added. Abbas said standing next to Trump during the event. “The current administration has failed miserably in all aspects of humanity.”

Trump’s trip to Dearborn was the first visit this cycle by one of the candidates to the city’s large Arab community. Trump’s attempt to court these voters comes as relations between the Arab community and the Democratic Party remain strained over the Biden-Harris administration’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza.

Michigan has one of the largest Arab-American populations in the country. According to Real Clear Politics, Harris has a slim 0.8% lead poll averagehow Arab Americans vote could make the difference.

Abbas told Fox News that members of his community are open to a change in U.S. leadership that could bring peace to the Middle East.

“All of our families are suffering across the border in Gaza and Lebanon and we need to stop, you know, the massive bombings that are happening, provide justice for everyone and allow everyone to live with dignity.”

“Diplomacy is the path to peace,” Abbas said, adding that Trump “extended an olive branch to the Arab community” and “made it a priority to come here and say some very strong words” to gain their support.

“We believe Donald Trump is our best option, and if so, a good option.”

Abbas also said he believes there will be a “seismic shift” among Arab Americans in the state toward voting for Trump.

“As Dearborn voters, we want to be heard,” Abbas continued. “So the person who is willing to listen to us and wants to reciprocate with love and tolerance, then we will gravitate towards that candidate. And that candidate is Donald Trump.”

The Michigan resident added what his Arab community expects from the former president if he returns to office. “And now our goal is to make sure that, you know, we end wars everywhere, and we’re asking Donald Trump to not only, you know, demand an end to war, but to demand it the day he steps in office.”

“No more killing, no more bombings, only world peace, love and tolerance,” he said.
