Union Omaha defender. Two family members have been identified as injured in a Bellevue home explosion

Union Omaha defenseman Mechack Jérôme, his wife and another family member injured three people in a Bellevue house explosion Thursday, according to the club.

Firefighters responded to an explosion, which is believed to have occurred caused by a propane leakAccording to Bellevue Fire and Rescue, three injured people suffered severe burns at a duplex in the 4900 block of Robin Drive near Bryan High School.

Citing an investigation report by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal, Frank Guido, battalion chief of Bellevue Fire and Rescue, said people were using a propane-powered stove before the explosion. According to the report, the burner was on and the propane cylinder valve was open at the time of the explosion. A barbecue, a lighter and a mobile phone were found in the area.

The explosion blew out the western wall and garage of the duplex, and the windows and doors were separated from their frames. Clothing and insulation could be seen late Friday morning in and outside the home’s driveway.

In a statement posted on social media Saturday, Union Omaha said it was supporting the family and focused on facilitating their recovery. The club thanked the work of the rescue services and medical staff and asked fans to respect the family’s privacy.
