Rape and murder suspect Amantle Samane appears in court for first time, state opposes bail

JOHANNESBURG – The court hearing against a suspect linked to the rape and murder of six-year-old Amantle Samane has been postponed to November 1.

The accused, now identified as 23-year-old Pethe Sara Simiao, appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court on charges of kidnapping, rape, murder and breaching the Immigration Act.

On Monday, officers launched a manhunt for the alleged attacker and detained him on Wednesday.

According to police, Samane’s body was discovered at the suspect’s Orlando home after he allegedly lured a young girl to his home, where he allegedly committed the heinous crime of leaving her body while he fled.

The full courtroom saw the wanted suspect for the first time since he went on the run after Amantle’s gruesome murder.
