The Baltimore Ravens legend sees a change in Lamar Jackson

Derrick Henry he fit in like a dream with the Baltimore Ravens and the offense reached new heights as a result. However, it took a lot of work to get to this point.

Throughout his time with the Tennessee Titans, Henry played in a system where the quarterback was primarily in the center position, which allowed him to run downfield more easily. In the meantime, it was mostly the Ravens who performed Lamar Jackson in the shotgun to make the attack more open.

It took some time to find the right balance, but in the end the Ravens found a nice mix that allowed both Jackson and Henry to thrive. The former is seeking his third MVP award (second in a row) and the latter is seeking his second Offensive Player of the Year award as Baltimore’s offense is the best in the league.

As both players improved, former Ravens linebacker Jamal Lewis revealed how the duo reached their full potential.

“I think Lamar had to adjust more than Derrick Henry,” Lewis said on the show Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch. “Because I know as a big linebacker it’s hard to get away from the shotgun, especially trying to keep your shoulders straight to the line of scrimmage, you know, turning everything and stuff like that. I liked being in “me” where I could see the field. But now it looks like Lamar had to drop under center or they had to play Pistol.

Because I can tell you this, Derrick Henry is not effective going from side to side. But when his shoulders are straight, man, listen, some business decisions and some cats really have to think twice before making them.

Lewis, who boasted a build similar to Henry’s at 5-foot-7 and 245 pounds, was the first in a long line of great Ravens running backs. In just six seasons as a pass rusher, he racked up 7,801 yards and 45 touchdowns, the highest totals in franchise history. His best season came in 2003, when he rushed for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors.

If Henry continues to play at this level, he could be the only one to join Lewis Ravens rush for 2,000 yards in a season. If he can achieve this goal, he will have Jackson and his adjustments to thank.
