A new affordable housing development is being built in northeast Calgary

An affordable housing project is under construction in northeast Calgary.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Whitehorn on Friday morning.

Ground has been broken on the development of a new affordable housing development in northeast Calgry.

The Homespace Society project will build temporary terraced houses for 52 vulnerable families.

There will be two- and three-room apartments in seven buildings.

The units will be made available to families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. They will be rented at rates of 30 percent. lower than market prices.

The investment is part of the city’s housing strategy, which council approved in 2023 after a two-day public hearing during which more than 100 Calgarians shared their housing concerns.
