Man kills wife in murder-suicide, leaves her dead in car parked on Water Street: HCSO

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Two people are dead following a murder-suicide that occurred overnight in downtown Tampa.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2800 block of Cedaridge Drive just after 9 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of a missing woman.

Just after midnight, detectives found the woman, 28-year-old Waleska Gomez Barroeta, dead in a car parked outside the Heron apartment building, located at 815 Water Street.

Authorities said the suspect, 31-year-old Franklin Vegas Delgado, called a relative and told them he had killed his wife.

Vegas reports Delgado left the parking lot where his wife was found and fled on foot. At 1:20 a.m. he was found with self-inflicted injuries at the Marriott Waterside Hotel, 505 Water Street. The hotel is located about half a mile from where he killed his wife.

“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This is an unimaginable loss and a painful reminder that violence is never the answer.”

This remains under investigation.
