One person has died in a plane crash near Crossville, the sheriff says

FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – The National Transportation Safety Board said an investigation is underway after a plane crashed near Crossville in Fentress County’s Wilder Parish on Friday.

According to preliminary information from the FAA, the crash occurred on Friday around 9:20 a.m. (Polish time) northwest of Crossville Memorial Airport. Only the pilot was on board at the time of the crash.

Sheriff Michael Reagon of the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WVLT News that a body was recovered at the scene and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for identification.

The NTSB authorities reported that the crash involved a Cessna 150 plane, a small plane that can accommodate a pilot and a passenger.

Reagon said the plane, which was scheduled to fly to Illinois, crashed after refueling at the Crossville airport. Additionally, Reagon said information about the flight did not match what was found at the scene.

The NTSB will lead the investigation with assistance from the FAA. Authorities said an NTSB investigator would be at the scene on Saturday.

Additional information has not been disclosed.

This is a developing story.
