The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway are closed at Exit 48 in Bohemia as Suffolk County Police investigate the crash, according to a department spokesman.

Suffolk police did not provide details of the crash or an estimated reopening date for the lanes, but said the crash appeared to be serious.

The New York State Department of Transportation’s 511 website shows the highway is closed from Exit 48, Smithtown, Locust Avenue, to Exit 46, Carleton Avenue, in Islip.

Police said the accident was reported around 3:37 p.m. Just before 7 p.m., police reported that the westbound road was still closed.
