Three people were taken to hospital after an apartment fire on Vaughan Street in downtown Winnipeg

Three people were taken to hospital on Friday evening after a fire broke out in a city center apartment.

A Winnipeg Fire Paramedic (WFPS) crew was called to a fire at a four-story apartment building at 200 Vaughan Street around 6:50 p.m.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene found smoke coming from the building. They helped evacuate residents who were stuck inside, others managed to get out on their own.

Crews battled the flame from the inside and declared it under control at 7:16 p.m.

Three people were taken to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residents of apartments that were not destroyed by the fire returned to their homes.
