A man committed suicide after his daughter “ran away” with the youth from the village

A man died by suicide after he jumped into a water tank after his 18-year-old daughter escaped with a village youth in Kitlana village in Bhiwani district on Saturday morning.

The family alleged that the victim Manjeet Singh (40) was upset when his daughter ran away from home with a youth from the village after he lured her. The police registered a case of abetment to suicide under Art. 108 Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against eight residents of the same village based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother and started an investigation.

According to complainant Sandeep, his elder brother Manjeet’s daughter went missing from home on October 19. The family has lodged a complaint with the police and suspects that the village youth lured the girl and fled the village. The complainant alleged that the police made no effort to search for the girl despite pleas from the family.

The complainant said that the youth Rahul had taken the girl away and his (Rahul’s) family had allegedly stated that they would keep the girl in their house as Rahul’s wife. The complainant stated that the thought of marrying off his daughter to a youth from the same village forced him to take a drastic step as he was unable to bear the pressure. He went to the waterworks and jumped into the tank to his death. On Saturday, his body was found floating in a water supply. Police registered a case against Rahul, Gaje Singh, Robin, Birmati, Jai Singh, Renu, Ravinder and Rinku and started investigation.
