Two teenagers died in a fiery crash in Riverside, another was seriously injured

Two teenagers were killed and another was seriously injured in a Saturday morning crash in Riverside after police said a driver ran a red light.

The incident happened just before 6 a.m. near the intersection of Wood Road and Van Buren Boulevard. After the first fire brigade units arrived at the scene, it turned out that one of the cars involved in the collision was on fire.

After extinguishing the fire, authorities found two people – a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl – dead. Another 17-year-old, who police say was sitting in the back seat during the crash, was seriously injured. The ambulance took him to hospital.

Officers investigating the crash said the car the teens were in was “heading north on Wood Road at a high rate of speed” when the driver ran a red light at the intersection. The driver of a Scion was driving along Van Buren when his car collided with the teenagers’ car, causing their car to hit a light pole, a utility pole and a tree before bursting into flames.

The Scion’s driver was not injured in the accident. Police said they were cooperating with investigators.

Police have not identified the two teenagers who died in the crash because authorities did not notify their families. Investigators suspect that drugs and alcohol contributed to the accident.
