Aamir Khan ‘knows nothing’ about son Azad’s school, reveals Kiran Rao: ‘He is a very busy father’

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao got married on December 28, 2005. After 16 years of marriage, they announced their divorce in 2021.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have been co-parenting their son Azad since their separation in 2021. Aamir’s busy schedule as a top film star often makes it difficult for him to be as present as his father, as he has talked about in interviews. Recently, Kiran discussed the challenges of co-parenting, saying that Aamir is not very involved in Azad’s education.

While chatting with Kareena Kapoor on What Women Want, Kiran described co-parenting with Aamir as “difficult”. She mentioned that she handled most of the parenting responsibilities even after marriage. Now that they are apart, Aamir realizes how important it is to make time for Azad. She said: “It’s hard. He is a very busy father. Honestly, even when we were married I was mostly doing the main parenting stuff, when we separated and then divorced, I think Aamir kind of realized how much of that he was going to have to factor into his life because when you live together in the same house, he somehow manages to achieve this. But to make time for Azad, it has become a much more conscious decision lately.”

Kiran Rao said that co-parenting with Aamir Khan became easier after their divorce. She mentioned that Aamir is more close to their son Azad and that they currently live close to each other. She said: “It’s much easier now and Aamir is more involved in it. Luckily we’re up and down at the moment, but when we get out we won’t be far. Azad enjoys spending time with his dad much more now that he is older. It’s gotten to a place where it’s really nice. I feel I can relax and leave Azad with Aamir.”

Kiran Rao talked about the one factor that Aamir lacks. She said, “Only Aamir doesn’t know anything about the school. I think that’s most of the problems fathers have. They always say, “Don’t involve us in school activities, we will do other things.”

Kiran also talked about how supportive her parents are when it comes to raising Azad. She shared: “For single mothers, a bad day is only when you really want a break for yourself. And your co-parent can’t (be there) due to their own schedule, for example. Fortunately, in my case, my parents step in and really support me. They come and help. But these are the days when you miss them and can’t switch off completely. I think moms can never completely switch off. We also have children who are starting to adapt to our lifestyle and support us. And it’s great for them to have moms who demand alone time, where they can know that they can have their own time because they’re not just here to take care of me.”

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao got married on December 28, 2005. During their 16 years of marriage, they shared many personal and professional experiences, including the birth of their son Azad in 2011 through surrogacy. In July 2021, Aamir and Kiran announced their divorce.
