Technology professional fears dead after being thrown into Yamuna in high-speed accident on Kalindi Kunj Bridge in Delhi

A 35-year-old technology professional is presumed dead after he was thrown into the Yamuna river in a high-speed collision on the Kalindi Kunj Bridge in New Delhi on Friday evening. As the police reported on Sunday, his wife and 10-month-old daughter were injured in the incident.

According to an Indian Express report, police said Mohammed Shami from Haldwani in Uttarakhand was returning with his family to the Abul Fazal enclave near Shaheen Bagh after visiting relatives in Noida when a speeding car hit their motorcycle from behind around 8:30 p.m.

The forceful collision threw Shami over the bridge’s railing into the river, and his wife, Arshi Rafiq, 30, and their daughter suffered spine and leg fractures. They are currently undergoing treatment.

A search operation involving police, divers and the sailing club’s rescue team has been underway since Friday evening to find Shami, a police officer said, adding that the car driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.

“An FIR has been registered at Kalindi Kunj Police Station against the car driver under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He has been identified and efforts are on to nab him,” the police official added.

A man in Mumbai died after jumping off the Atal Setu Bridge

In another incident, a 38-year-old engineer from Mumbai jumped from the Atal Setu Bridge on Wednesday afternoon (July 24). The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which showed how the man stopped his Tata Nexon on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and tried to commit suicide by climbing on the railing and jumping to his death.

The man was identified as K. Shrinivas, an engineer and resident of Dombivili, news agency PTI reported.

His family members said he was struggling to make ends meet. The report said they suspected financial problems were the reason for this drastic step. He left his residence around 11:30 p.m. the previous evening.
