“Hearts had to fight for victory”

“Hearts had to fight for victory”

We asked for your opinion on Hearts’ 2-1 victory over St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

Here’s what some of you said:

Colin: Another half-decent performance, but still missing a goal in the final third. We have to start finishing teams off. Lawrence Shankland’s touch in front of goal has left him, but he still contributes with assists and overall play. It’s a work in progress and I feel like I’m in for a tough season. I hope we can get into the top six and win the cup.

Max: Beni Baningime was man of the match for me. He had a poor season last year, but this season he has returned to the level at which he first joined the club. Hearts had to fight for victory. They played better, but now I will take all the points, no matter how, to move up the table.

Steven: Big three points for Hearts and Neil Critchley. One defeat in four games and the defeat was our fault. We have some difficult games ahead of us, so this victory was crucial. Baningime shows his quality, but is injured too often. When he plays, we are a better team, but he has serious injuries. That’s probably why he’s at Hearts and not Everton.

Benny: The manager must devise a way for the team to play as it did after St. Johnstone. We beat them for 10 minutes until we scored and then sat down again. If we had kept up that intensity early in the games, we could have scored a few goals and calmed them down. We are grateful that Beni is back – he motivates us!

In a minute: Shankland is very lacking in confidence, desperate for a goal. Once he gets his touch, he will ignite the team. Beni is showing how important he can be as he is currently the only midfielder who can turn under pressure, pass several players and win the ball. We should see more of this from Blair Spittal and Yan Dhanda. Where have Musa Drammeh and Andres Salazar disappeared to?

Charlie: An ugly victory, but a victory the same. A good start, but the players are clearly tired as the tight schedule takes its toll. Despite strengthening with Europe in mind, we still lack trusted players. The VAR intervention is puzzling, given that contested corner kicks are a common occurrence in Scotland. Baningime is a classy player.

Alexander: Good win for Hearts in the fight. I like how animated Neil Critchley was on the sidelines. We’ve got a tough run of fixtures ahead of us in November, but we’ve had some good fortune and there’s real excitement around the games in Europe.

Jamie: Tough match. Consolidate victory. But a win is a win and we will get three points. I still think there are a lot of players in the squad who aren’t good enough to wear the badge, but as they say, until the next game.
