Pregnant woman forced to clean hospital bed

A five-month pregnant woman was allegedly forced to clean blood from the hospital bed where her husband died after being shot in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh.

A video of the man’s wife cleaning his bed has sparked outrage, but the hospital says she asked permission to wipe the blood with a cloth to gather evidence.

Four people – a man and his three sons – were shot dead on Thursday in Lalpur village in the tribal-dominated Dindori district over a long-running land dispute. While the father and one of the sons died on the spot, the other two, Shivraj and Ramraj, were taken to Gadasarai Health Center for treatment.

Shivraj died of his injuries and his five-month-pregnant wife, Roshni, was allegedly forced to clean his hospital bed.

In the video, Roshni can be seen holding a bloody cloth in one hand and cleaning the bed with tissues in the other.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Tekam, a doctor at Gadasarai Health Center, said staff were present at the facility and the woman was not asked to clean the bed.

“On Thursday, during a land dispute, men were shot at and two of them were brought to our facility. The deceased’s wife asked us to allow her to wipe the blood from the bed with a cloth so that she could use it as evidence of the extent of the bleeding, but she was not asked to clean the bed. “I have not received any complaint from this woman or her family,” he said.

Gadasarai police have registered a case against seven people on various charges, including murder, for shooting at four men. Some of the suspects were detained.
