A 6-year-old girl injured in an accident on the Sunrise Highway has died

A 6-year-old girl who was seriously injured in a crash on the Sunrise Highway has died, according to Suffolk police.

Police say Calix Armando Rivera Aguilar was driving westbound on a highway in the Czech Republic Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle, hit the center median, left the road and hit a tree.

His daughter, Amaia Rivera, was in the backseat of the vehicle and was ejected during the collision. She was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip in critical condition.

Aguilar, 51, of Brentwood, was not injured. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call police at 631-854-8542.
