An elderly pedestrian was injured in an early morning crash in Rochester Hills

A 72-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while crossing Rochester Road near Avon Road at approximately 6:45 a.m. on November 3.

The driver of the 2013 Ford Focus that hit the man was a 28-year-old Colombian. The police determined that he was in the country illegally.

At the time of the accident, the victim was wearing a reflective vest and was on a marked pedestrian crossing.

He was transported to the hospital by paramedics from the Rochester Hills Fire Department. Speed, alcohol consumption or drug use do not appear to be a factor in the incident. The case is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the driver pending a hearing in federal court regarding his immigration status.
