Blaze burns down the former Anthony’s Cummaquid Inn

A dispatcher confirmed Sunday evening that the Yarmouth Fire Department was battling a large fire at a long-vacant restaurant on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port.

The dispatcher, who declined to give his name, said the cause of the fire was not yet known. He said the department received a report of the fire just before 6:30 p.m. Nearly three hours later, crews remained on the scene of the fire and no further details were immediately available.

Videos and photos posted on social media showed huge orange flames and clouds of smoke rising into the sky above the destroyed wooden building, while firefighters monitored and extinguished the remains of the structure.

The building which, according to reports, housed, among others, Anthony’s Cummaquid Inn before the restaurant closed in 2015, it appears to be dilapidated, with the windows and roof engulfed in flames.

Video published on YouTube by Hyannis News it showed flames engulfing the roof of the building and reducing the entrance to ash, and firefighters training a hose on a hole in the wall to shoot water at the flames behind it.

This is breaking news and will be updated as more information becomes available.
