SUV crashes into Topsfield Bakeshop

An SUV crashed into the entrance of a Topsfield bakery on Sunday afternoon, according to the Topsfield Fire Department.

The North Shore Regional 911 Center began receiving calls about the crash around 1:13 p.m., the department said in a news release. statement posted on Facebook. The department said no injuries were reported and a building inspector assessed the building’s safety.

Topsfield Bakeshop will be closed on Monday as usual. The department said it plans to open Tuesday morning with temporary doors.

Photos posted on social media show a Subaru Forester with its front end smashed into the bakery’s concave glass door, alongside cement blocks and wood panels that appeared to have detached from the building’s exterior.

Facebook user Veronica Joy commented on the fire department’s post, saying she and her daughter were the only customers in the store at the time of the accident.

“Luckily at the counter and away from the door,” Joy wrote. “The employee responded quickly and asked if we wanted to go behind the counter and exit through the back. It was terrifying though.”

Topsfield police are investigating the incident. No further information was available.
