An 80-year-old woman died over the weekend after being killed in a car accident in October

An 80-year-old woman who was involved in a car accident on October 20 died over the weekend as a result of her injuries.

The woman, identified as Guadalupe Garcia, attempted to make a left turn in her Ford Focus from east Broadway to northbound Columbus Boulevard just after 12:30 p.m. She was struck by a Ford Escape driven by Huntre Blake Shepherd, 22, who was driving his Ford Escape north on Columbus, according to a press release from the Tucson Police Department.

Garcia was transported to Banner University Main, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, November 2. Shepherd was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the press release, neither of the drivers was sober at the time.

Shepherd was arrested on October 30 on suspicion of aggravated assault. Since Garcia is no longer alive, the case will be turned over to the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
