An Illinois man arrested after allegedly punching an election judge who told him to wait in line

Some Illinois A man was arrested after assaulting an election judge at a city hall during early voting.

Daniel Schmidt, 24, allegedly punched an election judge in the face after being told to wait in line for his turn to vote.

At approximately 11 a.m., police received a call from the Orlando Park city office, where they found Schmidt being held by several people.

He allegedly tried to cut through the voting line, which caused the election judge to ask him to go back to the back of the line. When he allegedly tried to push past the referee, he was detained again. Schmidt allegedly began swearing at the referee, then punched him and knocked his glasses off his face.

Passersby reportedly grabbed him and held him until police arrived at the scene. Police said Schmidt allegedly resisted arrest.

After his arrest, Schmidt was charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a victim over 60 years of age, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place and several misdemeanors.

He spent the entire night in custody, and on Monday he was summoned to a pre-trial detention hearing.

Late last month a man came Texas was arrested after he allegedly punched a polling station worker who instructed him that he could not wear his clothes on the premises Donald Trump hat.

Texas is one of 21 states that bans all political clothing at polling places.

The alleged attacker, 63-year-old Jesse Lutzenberger, was arrested on October 24 and charged with a third-degree felony. He was jailed on $30,000 bail.
