Talks about the Gaza agreement are underway – diplomatic source – World

TEL AVIV, November 5. /TASS/. After the United States said the Palestinian Hamas movement rejected Egypt’s proposal for a short-term ceasefire in Gaza, talks are still ongoing and mediators are still trying to broker an agreement, a diplomatic source familiar with the matter said The times of Israel.

The diplomat noted that “all options for reaching an agreement were considered and that the sides were watching the results of Tuesday’s U.S. presidential election to determine how to respond.”

The Egyptian proposal included a 12-day ceasefire during which Hamas would release four Israeli hostages, and then the sides would hold talks on a “more long-term ceasefire.” However, the movement has made clear that it will only agree to a short-term deal “that includes guarantees for a long-term deal, and the Egyptian proposal provided no such assurance given Israel’s refusal.”

Earlier, Al Arabiya said Hamas leaders were willing to accept Egypt’s proposal if Israel agreed to consider it as part of a potential comprehensive agreement.

Hamas sources told Asharq News that the group would prefer to reach a comprehensive agreement with the Jewish state rather than separate agreements.
