Imane Khelif, controversial boxer, identified as male in leaked medical report

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won gold at the Paris Olympics in women’s boxing, is male, according to a medical report.

According to a medical report obtained by French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia, Khelif was found to suffer from five-alpha reductase deficiency – a sexual development disorder that is said to occur in genetic males, News 18 reports.

The leaked report is believed to have been prepared in June 2023.

The MRI result included in the report, which was a copy of a thorough physical examination performed on Khelif to check for the presence of a sexual development disorder, also reportedly showed that Khelif did not have a uterus but instead had internal testicles and a “micropenis” resembling an enlarged clitoris.

According to Aoudia, after the MRI examination, Khelif also underwent a chromosomal test, which further confirmed that the Algerian has an XY karyotype. A hormonal test was also performed, which showed that Khelif had testosterone levels typical of men.

Aoudia stated that after an examination, doctors suggested that Khelifa’s parents may have been related.

The report also recommended that the boxer be referred for “surgical correction and hormonal therapy” along with psychological support.
